Marty Bitter Named New Assistant Commissioner
Former California Interscholastic President Marty Bitter has been hired as the Section’s new Assistant Commissioner.
Bitter has a strong background in education-based athletics and most recently served as the Director of Athletics for Madera Unified School District. During that time, he served as both the Central Section President and then served as the CIF State President from 2022-2024. He has also been the Chairperson of several CIF sport advisory committees including basketball, football, and swimming.
“Marty’s background in leadership roles throughout the state is unparalleled in the Central Section. But even more important he is a high-quality human being that builds meaningful relationships with a wide range of individuals. We are extremely excited to have Marty join our team,” Central Section Commissioner Ryan Tos said.
“I am so excited for this opportunity,” stated Bitter. “To be able to continue to support and create opportunities for the student athletes and member schools of our Section is both an honor and a privilege. I can’t wait to get started supporting the vision of the Central Section and seeing the student athletes Belong, Connect and Compete.”
Bitter graduated from California State University, Fresno with a Bachelor of Sciences Degree in Kinesiology. He has been an active member of the California State Athletic Directors Association (CSADA) and the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (NIAAA).
Bitter and his wife, Cindy, have two children – Peyton, a junior at Fresno State, and Brayden, a sophomore at Cal State Fullerton. Both Peyton and Brayden currently compete in intercollegiate athletics.
Bitter fills the role vacated by Matt Sozinho who has transitioned to the position of Associate Commissioner.
